It hasn't been confirmed on the CDC website, but rumor has it there is some sort of virus going around that makes people put their favorite classic car body on top of a V8 powered tube frame. The thrice painted !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! featured last month has a competitor for the "what is hiding under that sheet metal" trophy.
Find this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for sale. It looks like a seriously tubbed/flared Karmann Ghia and retains little of the original Volkswagen parts and is riding on some kind of tube frame chassis and a C4 Corvette suspension. DT Commenter !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! made the astute comment: Looks like a 911 Turbo that got stung by several hundred wasps.
Power comes from a Ford 5.0 liter V8 mounted up front and probably putting out around 300-325 horsepower. Power gets put to the Vette rear end via a Borg-Warner T-5 manual transmission.
The passenger compartment has little in relation to a normal Ghia because just about every part needs to be custom fabricated when dealing with something this insane - and the inside bears a striking resemblance to the BMW 2002 Cobra.

This car is weirdly fantastic. I would totally give 13k for it. But I also loved the BMW at 10k. Moral of the story is I like weird cars!

No, this looks like after a merry night of drinking German beer and gorging on Tacobell, Volkswagen had promptly stumbled to the toilet due to rumblings of the belly (like one has after having some Tacohell) and shat out a Ghia/Porsche turd...that just wouldn't flush down the industrial strength toilet for car-movements.

For the car for which it was designed, it was more about keeping the engine cool. If the builder wanted grounded to the goundedness, he should have gone with an actual downforce spoiler, methinks.

Now if he'd left it as a classic KG and just added the V8 and some cool wheels, I would have been very impressed. That would have been one hell of a sleeper but with all the flairs and bodywork, it is no longer even a KG. The KG is one of my favorite cars, shaped just how I like my women but this thing is a travesty and I'm sure that both Karmann and Ghia are crying in their graves.
